Emmett Jack is Born!!

Finally getting to update the blog! Funny how technology makes getting the news out the following day seem like an eternity. :) I know that a lot of you saw this on Facebook already - I had 483 emails in my box this morning! LOL

Anyway, we were told to show up yesterday at 6:30am for a 7:30am surgery. We figured there was probably going to be some delay, but we didn't realize quite how much. At any rate, at 7 we got to meet our nurse, Lindsay, and for the next few hours, tons of people piled in my room to present forms, draw blood, explain their role in the delivery, etc. They were so responsive to doing whatever would make us comfortable and the energy was one of enthusiasm and yet calm. It was perfect.

The staff did all sorts of little things to make me comfortable, which was great as a distraction from my concerns about my and the baby's health. At around 9:00, we went into the OR and the machinery went chugging along. They took their time as they said they would because it's my 3rd c-section, and I even had time to take a little bit of a nap on the operating table! (The spinal was THAT good :)) At 9:40, I felt the indescribable emptiness that suddenly rushed into my womb, a brief pause, and then a cry. No, really, a SCREAM. Dr. Ferguson held Emmett Jack Shenk over the top of the curtain to meet us. Bob snapped the perfect picture:

Is that not the greatest picture?! I love it. As soon as I saw him, I said, "Oh my goodness, it's Cole with dark hair!" Emmett was cleaned and wrapped up (and continued to scream!! What a wonderful sound!!!) and we had some great bonding time with him while I was still on the operating table.

Emmett was taken to the nursery with Bob and I obviously stayed behind (lol) to get finished up. They tied my tubes and took their time to clean and sew me up! It was a relief knowing that Emmett was doing so well and that this day was here... and was so full of peace. Everything was just so peaceful and perfect. I couldn't have asked for more. :)

Emmett was 8 lbs. 4 oz. (! I told you it was a bigger kid!) and 19.25" long. He was and is such a pink little baby and we love the dark hair. I was rolled into recovery at the conclusion of the surgery where we stayed for quite some time. I actually had some issues with too much bleeding and so I had to stay in recovery longer and receive some extra doses of Pitocin to shrink my uterus down and stop the bleeding. Fortunately, this did the trick. Emmett joined us and it was a wonderful day to spend together. My mom brought Cole (Dean stayed away for another day to get over croup) and he was SMITTEN with his little brother. Love it.

Thanks again for all of your support and prayers. It was a marvelous day. Welcome to the world, sweet Emmett!!!

I'm so happy to see that everything went well. I'm glad that the bleeding problem was fixed easily. Your dentist should be proud of that mouth shot. :)
