The Plan

I like this:
Tomorrow is Dean's IEP meeting where we talk about our plans and goals for the next year. We're intending to tell them about our plan for Dean to go 5 mornings a week - 2 of those will be at a nearby typical preschool, and 3 will be at the center-based (special ed) placement. We're excited about Dean getting the best of both worlds. I don't think they're going to be too happy about the arrangement, but this is what we think is best for Dean and so we don't really care. :) Dean did wonderfully at school today. It's great to think about how much progress he's made since starting in December. Today he was interacting with other kids much more (and gave every single one a hug :)) and was even talking a bunch! By "talking" I mean a few words, some signs, and other attempts at relevant sounds (like saying "oh" or "oh-deh" for "open"). Usually he doesn't make a peep there! His fine motor skills are improving and his gross motor skills have shown HUGE improvement. Yesterday he climbed a humungous inflatable slide at Pump it Up again and again and again! Today I got a call from our pediatrician saying that he was referred to care for a new baby in the area with PWS. The parents want to talk to someone who has a child with PWS who's a little bit older and can help them make sense of everything going on. He asked if I would like to do that and I told him absolutely! I remember when Dean was born and our world turned upside-down... I had the thought, God knew this was going to happen. This is not a surprise to him. It was very comforting. Being a parent to a child with special needs means you spend a lot of time in uncertainty. Yes, parenting in general and LIFE in general lends itself to that, but we've found a whole new level of this to apply in parenting Dean. It's wonderful to know that despite all of the circumstances, God's plan is not derailed.
